Kredete, a rapidly scaling financial technology company, is seeking a sharp, curious, and pragmatic Associate Counsel to join its high-impact legal team in New York. Operating at the intersection of fintech, artificial intelligence (AI), and global regulation, Kredete builds modern financial infrastructure for global money movement, enabling instant cross-border transactions across more than 60 countries.

Key Responsibilities

As an Associate Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in navigating complex multi-jurisdictional legal landscapes and supporting the company's licensing and compliance infrastructure. Your duties will span several key areas:

  • Regulatory & Licensing: Support and manage licensing applications, renewals, and ongoing regulatory filings across US states and international markets. Monitor evolving regulatory requirements in payments, money transmission, credit, and AI-driven financial services.
  • Commercial & Product Legal: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including partnership agreements, vendor contracts, and API terms. Advise product and engineering teams on legal issues arising from new features, such as AI-driven workflows, credit products, and global card issuance.
  • Risk & Compliance: Partner with the compliance team to strengthen AML, KYC, and fraud-related policies. Provide legal guidance on data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, and emerging market equivalents).
  • General Counsel Support: Assist with corporate governance, board documentation, equity-related legal work, and manage outside counsel relationships.

Eligibility & Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Bar Admission: Active bar admission in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Experience: 0 to 2 years of legal experience, which can include internships, clerkships, or early-career roles with exposure to fintech, payments, financial services, or regulatory law.
  • Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with US money transmission laws, banking regulations, and consumer financial protection frameworks.
  • Mindset: A global outlook with an interest in multi-jurisdictional legal questions (experience or interest in African, Latin American, or Southeast Asian financial regulatory environments is a strong plus).
