This full-time, mid-senior level position focuses on defending lawsuits filed in Maryland courts and handling first-party insurance defense. Key Responsibilities
The selected Associate Counsel will be responsible for managing a diverse litigation caseload. Primary duties include:
- Legal Research & Writing: Researching complex laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Advisory Services: Rendering professional opinions on liability, damages, and claim value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Litigation Management: Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery. This includes conducting depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
- Trial Advocacy: Defending the company's interests through trials or dispositive hearings for all assigned matters.
Eligibility & Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following strict criteria:
- Education: A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required.
- Bar Admission: Active admission to the Maryland Bar in good standing is required. Candidates must maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits.
- Experience: 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense, personal injury, or related civil litigation fields.
- Travel: Ability to travel as required to attend trials, hearings, depositions, and management meetings.
- Skills: Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to document files clearly and professionally.
Compensation & Benefits
