The American Society of International Law (ASIL) is inviting applications for student authors for its prestigious publication series, International Law in Brief (ILIB). This is a premier opportunity for law students globally to engage with cutting-edge international legal developments and publish their work on a highly respected global platform read by practitioners, scholars, and policymakers worldwide.
Selected student authors will collaborate closely with the ILIB editorial team to propose, research, and write concise, accessible summaries of recent developments in international law. These pieces are widely distributed, offering authors an exceptional platform to showcase their analytical and writing skills.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must be students of ASIL Academic Partners and belong to one of the following categories:
- Second- or third-year JD students (2L or 3L).
- Second- to fourth-year LLB students.
- LLM students.
- SJD or PhD students.
Additionally, prior coursework, research, or writing experience in the field of international law will be considered a significant asset during the selection process.
What to Expect & Workload
Selected student authors will be expected to:
- Propose, research, and draft short news briefs on international legal developments.
- Commit approximately 2 to 4 hours per week, depending on the volume and complexity of the issues covered.
The program is highly selective, with approximately five students chosen per semester. The upcoming term will run for the August–January period.
