Legal.io is actively recruiting a seasoned Commercial Counsel (Contract) to support the legal operations of a leading fintech company in the United States. This is a high-impact, short-term engagement designed for mid-to-senior level attorneys with deep expertise in financial technology and commercial transactions.

Key Responsibilities

The selected Commercial Counsel will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of legal matters, including:

• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide array of commercial agreements, such as vendor contracts, customer agreements, partnership deals, service agreements, and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
• Providing daily, actionable legal counsel and strategic guidance to business stakeholders on operational, contractual, and regulatory compliance issues.
• Identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal and commercial risks associated with new business initiatives and product offerings.
• Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to drive strategic business objectives and facilitate commercial transactions.
• Advising on evolving regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the consumer finance and payments landscape.

Eligibility & Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Experience: A minimum of 7+ years of commercial contracting experience is strictly required.
• Industry Background: A strong and proven background supporting fintech, payments, consumer finance, or other highly regulated financial services businesses.
• Transactional Skills: Demonstrated experience negotiating complex commercial agreements within a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
• Domain Knowledge: Deep familiarity with fintech products, commercial deal structures, and consumer finance regulatory frameworks.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities, alongside the ability to work autonomously.

Preferred Experience: Prior in-house experience at a technology or financial services firm, and experience handling international or cross-border commercial transactions are highly advantageous.

Compensation & Engagement Details

• Position: Commercial Counsel (Contract)
• Location: Remote (United States)
• Duration: 2 Months (August 1, 2026 – September 30, 2026)
• Work Hours: 40 hours per week
• Compensation: $100.00 to $110.00 per hour (Base pay range)
