GEICO is seeking an experienced and highly motivated legal professional to join its Staff Counsel team as Counsel, California (Remote). This full-time, remote position is dedicated to defending lawsuits filed in California courts and handling first-party insurance defense. The role offers a competitive salary range of $127,100.00 to $210,125.00 per year, alongside a comprehensive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

The selected Counsel will represent GEICO and its insureds in civil litigation matters. Primary duties include:

• Researching complex legal issues and preparing comprehensive legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Rendering professional opinions on liability, damages, and valuation to assist the Claims Department.
• Drafting and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
• Conducting and defending depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defending assigned cases through trial or dispositive hearings.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following strict requirements:

• Experience: A minimum of 7+ years of active litigation experience in insurance defense, personal injury, or civil litigation is strictly required.
• Education: A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required.
• Bar Admission: Active license and good standing with the California State Bar, with the commitment to maintain mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.
• Travel: Ability to travel as necessary to attend trials, hearings, depositions, and corporate meetings.
• Work Authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States; GEICO will not sponsor new applicants for employment authorization for this position.
