Description: Fortegra is seeking a Counsel, Legal & Regulatory to support the Company’s growth by assisting with a wide range of legal, regulatory, compliance, corporate governance, and commercial contracting matters. This role provides day‑to‑day support to senior attorneys, helps manage regulatory obligations, contributes to public policy and industry engagement, and collaborates with business teams across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements under the guidance of senior attorneys (distribution agreements, reinsurance agreements, trust agreements, NDAs, etc.).
- Provide legal counsel on regulatory compliance, investigations, and enforcement matters.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for state Departments of Insurance and other regulatory agencies.
- Lead and coordinate regulatory examinations, inquiries, and responses to information requests.
- Support corporate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings requiring regulatory review.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of legal experience, with a focus on regulatory or insurance law preferred.
- Experience with commercial contracting or corporate transactions.
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States (no visa sponsorship available).
