About the Opportunity
Nicolet National Bank is seeking a highly qualified and motivated legal professional to join its team as Deputy Legal Counsel in Green Bay, WI. This is a full-time, mid-senior level in-house position reporting directly to the Chief Legal Counsel. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the bank's diverse lines of business, managing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance across its growing footprint.
Key Responsibilities
The Deputy Legal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support across several key areas of the bank:
- Business Line Support: Conduct research and provide strategic advice on consumer and commercial deposit/loan products, wealth services, operations, and compliance.
- Human Resources Support: Offer legal guidance on employment law matters, including terminations, disciplinary actions, severance, FMLA, ADA, and EEOC compliance. Review employment agreements and non-compete provisions.
- Litigation & Contract Management: Assist in managing litigation, oversee outside counsel relationships, respond to legal service of process, and draft/negotiate vendor contracts.
- Special Assets: Support the Special Assets Department in resolving troubled assets, foreclosures, mediations, and forbearance agreements.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Interact with regulators and auditors, deliver legal training, monitor industry trends, and assist in mitigating fraudulent transactions.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the following qualifications to be considered for the role:
- Education: Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of general practice experience is required. Experience in commercial loan documentation, contract review, negotiations, and litigation is mandatory.
- Licensure: A current, active license to practice law in good standing within the Nicolet footprint is required.
- Preferred Skills: Prior experience in banking or financial services, knowledge of UCC (specifically Articles 3, 4, 4A, and 9), and familiarity with employment law (FMLA, ADA, EEOC) are highly preferred.
