Chesapeake Search Partners (CSP) is recruiting for an In-House Counsel on behalf of a privately held real estate lender based in Towson, Maryland. This full-time associate-level position is designed for a detail-oriented and highly organized attorney who will manage the legal aspects of the company's default loan pipeline. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with operations, servicing, and executive teams to protect the company’s interests while streamlining internal legal processes.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed In-House Counsel will handle a diverse portfolio of legal matters, including but not limited to:
- Managing collections, defaults, and loss-mitigation matters.
- Preparing and filing foreclosure documents, affidavits, and court pleadings.
- Managing relationships with outside counsel to optimize efficiency and reduce external legal spend.
- Responding to bankruptcy filings, motions, and court deadlines.
- Drafting and reviewing loan-related legal documents, notices, and correspondence.
- Assisting with title issues, collateral review, and compliance matters.
- Developing internal legal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to strengthen process and risk controls.
- Attending court proceedings when necessary and providing general legal support to the executive and operations teams.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Candidates applying for this position must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Bar Admission: Active member of the Maryland Bar in good standing.
- Experience: 3+ years of professional legal experience.
- Practice Areas: Demonstrated experience in real estate transactions, secured lending, foreclosure law, collections, or creditor-rights litigation.
- Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously. High level of professionalism, organization, and initiative.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Maryland court e-filing and familiarity with private lending or mortgage operations.
Compensation & Benefits
The position offers a competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits, including:
- Base Salary: $90,000.00 to $110,000.00 per year (commensurate with skills and experience).
