Castleton Commodities International LLC (CCI) is seeking a highly experienced and business-oriented Employment Counsel for a part-time role based in Stamford, CT. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide global legal support on employment, compensation, benefits, and employee relations matters within a sophisticated investment management and trading environment.
Role Overview & Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work closely with Talent Strategy/HR, Compensation, Payroll & Benefits, the internal Legal team, outside counsel, and Senior Management. Key responsibilities include:
- Compensation & Benefits: Partnering with internal stakeholders on equity/carry plans, deferred compensation, incentive plan administration, bonus guarantees, retention letters, and pay equity analysis.
- Employment Documentation: Drafting, reviewing, and updating employment agreements, separation agreements, restrictive covenants, consulting arrangements, and template documentation in compliance with local laws.
- Compliance & Advisory: Advising on employee classification, wage and hour laws, background checks, leave administration, payroll, benefits, and ERISA-related matters.
- Employee Relations: Supporting performance management, disciplinary actions, internal investigations, warning memos, terminations, and resolving employment-related claims or demand letters.
- M&A Support: Providing employment-related legal support for mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions, including due diligence, transition services, and integration.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following professional criteria to be considered for this role:
- Education: J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Bar Admission: Active bar membership in good standing.
- Experience: A minimum of 8 years of employment law experience. Prior in-house experience is highly preferred, though candidates coming directly from private practice with strong employment counseling, compensation, and benefits experience will be considered.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience supporting trading, private equity, investment, or similarly complex business structures.
- Legal Expertise: Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law (wage and hour, classification, restrictive covenants, separations, discrimination). Exposure to international employment law is highly preferred.
