Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group is currently seeking an experienced and pragmatic Interim Corporate Counsel to support a fast-growing technology company. In this remote role (operating on Eastern Standard Time), the successful candidate will serve as a vital legal partner to the client's product, engineering, and business teams. The primary objective of this position is to ensure that the company’s products, features, and communications remain fully compliant with a diverse array of regulatory frameworks, including consumer protection, data privacy, and industry-specific laws.

Key Responsibilities

The Interim Corporate Counsel will handle a broad spectrum of legal and compliance matters, including:

  • Product & Regulatory Compliance: Advising on the legal implications of product features and enhancements, ensuring compliance with fee transparency, tenant screening, consumer protection, and fair housing laws, and developing jurisdiction-specific compliance frameworks.
  • Compliance Operations: Managing outside counsel, leading quarterly regulatory updates, and serving as the primary point of contact for ad hoc compliance inquiries across the business.
  • Consumer Protection, Privacy & TCPA: Ensuring compliance with privacy, consumer protection, and TCPA requirements, advising on disclosures and consent language, and supporting telephony compliance efforts.
  • AI & Emerging Technology: Providing legal guidance on AI-related product features and navigating evolving regulatory frameworks.
  • Commercial Contracts: Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various agreements, including API/integration agreements, vendor contracts, marketing agreements, and consultant contracts.
  • Cross-Functional Advisory: Partnering with product, engineering, marketing, and operations teams to support key initiatives such as identity/income verification (Plaid), data furnishing, and e-signature tools.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Hold an active bar membership (Florida bar membership is preferred).
  • Demonstrate experience advising on consumer-facing products, specifically regarding privacy, TCPA, FCRA, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Exhibit strong commercial contracting and negotiation skills.
  • Possess the ability to analyze complex legal issues and deliver pragmatic, business-oriented advice in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
