CLSA, a premier financial services group, is seeking a highly qualified legal professional for the position of Legal Counsel, FICC, Legal. This is a full-time, associate-level role based in Hong Kong. The selected candidate will join the legal team to provide specialized legal support to the Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities (FICC), Futures, and Commodities business divisions across Hong Kong and other regional offices.
Key Responsibilities
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for managing legal risks and facilitating transactions within the FICC business unit. Key duties include:
- Providing comprehensive legal support to FICC, Futures, and Commodities business teams in Hong Kong and globally.
- Advising on structured debt issuances, debt financing structured products, and OTC derivatives transactions across multiple asset classes (fixed income, funds, and commodities).
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex transactional and relationship documents, including distribution agreements, structured notes, MTN program documents, terms of business, prime brokerage agreements, and Bond Connect related agreements.
- Advising business units on structural, legal, reputational, and transaction-specific issues.
- Monitoring and responding to regulatory initiatives, market structure reforms, and policy developments.
- Collaborating closely with the Legal & Compliance Department (LCD) on general corporate and business-specific matters.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Law.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) gained within a reputable international law firm. Prior in-house experience in a financial institution is considered an advantage.
- Bar Qualification: A common law qualification (other than Hong Kong) is preferred.
- Domain Expertise: Relevant experience in structured products or financing transactions involving Asia, ASEAN, and/or Commonwealth jurisdictions. Experience with FICC structured products/derivatives (including FX, Rates, and Credit Derivatives) is highly preferred, though experience in Equity Derivatives, Funds, or Commodities will also be considered.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.
- Soft Skills: Strong technical, commercial, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize workloads effectively.
