Job Title: Legal and Regulatory Counsel

Apliteni is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal and Regulatory Counsel to join their team in Estonia. The successful candidate will have real, hands-on legal expertise in a software/tech company under EU sanctions & data protection regimes, with a strong grounding in EU/Estonian law.

Key Responsibilities:

• Final decision on legal correctness — whether an action, document, or scenario is compliant
• Handle LEA requests independently from receipt to response
• Regulator correspondence — sign and send without intermediate sign-off
• Nexus testing — independently determine whether a given law applies to Apliteni
• Due diligence — final KYC/AML conclusion
• Sanctions screening — final decision on a client or counterparty
• Enforcement intelligence — own real knowledge of how regulators actually apply the law

Requirements:

• Real, hands-on legal expertise in a software/tech company under EU sanctions & data protection regimes
• EU/Estonian legal grounding
• Depth in at least two of: GDPR/data protection, sanctions (OFAC/EU), AML/KYC, responding to law-enforcement requests
• Enforcement reality — you've actually dealt with regulators and answered their requests
• Comfort owning the final call and signing it — judgement under genuine legal conflict
• Fluent English
