EY (Ernst & Young) is inviting applications for the position of Legal Counsel (Assistant Director) based in Singapore. This is a full-time, mid-senior level role within the General Counsel’s Office (GCO) team. Reporting directly to the Singapore General Counsel, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal and contractual support to business teams across a broad range of legal and regulatory issues.
Key Responsibilities
As a Legal Counsel, your core duties will include:
- Contract Negotiation: Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a diverse range of engagement contracts and commercial agreements with clients across EY’s service lines.
- Legal Advisory: Providing timely, practical, and commercially focused legal advice on key issues, including data privacy, intellectual property (IP), and IT licensing.
- Risk Mitigation: Advising service lines on potential legal and regulatory risks arising from the delivery of professional services.
- Strategic Support: Undertaking additional legal responsibilities and projects as assigned by the General Counsel.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) or a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a common law jurisdiction.
- Experience: 5 to 7 years of corporate legal experience, ideally acquired through a combination of private practice and in-house roles. Experience within a multinational organization is highly desirable.
- Skills: Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Candidates must be business-minded and capable of explaining complex legal risks to non-legal stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
- Work Ethic: Excellent writing, drafting, and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
The following attributes and experiences will be viewed favorably:
- Prior experience in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) or capital markets.
- A technology background or experience dealing with IT services contracts, software licensing, data-related matters, technology implementation, and intellectual property.
- An interest in innovation, emerging technology, and the use of AI-enabled tools to support legal service delivery.
