The City of Chicago is seeking a Legal Counsel for the Board of Ethics. This in-house attorney role involves advising legal staff and the board on issues relating to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, Open Meetings Act, and other relevant federal, state, and local statutes, including City of Chicago rules, the Municipal Code, ethics, campaign financing, and lobbying statutes. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth research into legal issues relative to ethics and campaign financing.
  • Provide legal counsel to department staff administering Governmental Ethics Ordinances.
  • Respond to inquiries from City employees, operating departments, and the City Council regarding financial disclosure procedures, alleged misconduct, campaign contributions, and other ethics-related matters.
  • Evaluate pending legislation and draft advisory opinions interpreting the Governmental Ethics Ordinance.
