Oxfam GB is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Legal Counsel (Employment) to join its legal team in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. This full-time, mid-senior level position offers a unique opportunity to provide critical legal support to a global movement dedicated to ending poverty and fighting inequality. The role is offered on a hybrid basis, allowing for regular remote work with a requirement to visit the Oxford office at least once a month.
Key Responsibilities
As Legal Counsel (Employment), the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the organization's operations and values. Primary responsibilities include:
- Providing clear, practical, and commercially astute legal advice on UK and international employment law queries and litigation.
- Advising country programmes globally and collaborating closely with UK-based Human Resources colleagues on complex employee relations issues, investigations, and whistleblowing cases.
- Supporting the implementation of Oxfam’s Equality and Anti-Racist Strategies by advising on positive action and other lawful equity and inclusion measures.
- Drafting, reviewing, and updating HR policies, procedures, and guidance notes.
- Contributing to the broader OGB Legal Team by advising on commercial legal issues and strategic organizational priorities.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Professional Qualification: Legally qualified to practice in the United Kingdom.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years Post Qualification Experience (PQE) in employment law.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience advising on complex UK employment law, HR policies, investigations, and dispute resolution. Broad commercial legal experience in-house or in private practice is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong analytical skills to identify key legal issues within complex queries, excellent prioritization capabilities, and the ability to produce clear guidance and training materials.

Compensation and Benefits
Oxfam offers a competitive package for this role, including:
- Salary: £58,800.00 to £68,000.00 per year, depending on experience.
- Flexible Working (Flexfam): Hybrid working model with regular home-based work and a minimum requirement of one day per month at the Oxford office.
