EY (Ernst & Young), a global leader in professional services, is seeking an experienced and versatile lawyer to join its regional legal team as a Legal Counsel based in Singapore. Reporting directly to the Singapore and Southeast Asia General Counsel, the selected candidate will handle a diverse portfolio of complex, cross-border legal matters. This is a full-time position that requires logical thinking, practical problem-solving skills, and a willingness to travel across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispute Resolution & Litigation: Manage and advise on litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution matters across Southeast Asia. This includes instructing and managing external counsel, developing case strategies, overseeing document review and discovery, and advising business teams on risk exposure and settlement considerations.
- Investigations & Regulatory Matters: Lead or support internal investigations and regulatory inquiries within Singapore and Southeast Asia, coordinating with internal stakeholders, regulators, and external advisors, and advising on remediation measures.
- Commercial Contracting: Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, including client engagement terms, vendor and procurement agreements, and partnership/alliance arrangements.
- Training & Guidance: Develop and deliver legal training, guidance, and awareness programs for business teams across the region.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in law or a J.D. degree.
- Bar Qualification: Qualified to practice law in Singapore or another common law jurisdiction in Southeast Asia.
- Professional Experience: More than 7 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), with substantive exposure to litigation, dispute resolution, investigations, and regulatory matters.
- Preferred Skills: Experience in managing cross-border legal matters, strong project management skills, and the ability to coordinate external counsel across multiple jurisdictions. Commercial contracting experience is considered a plus.
