GRIDSERVE, a pioneering sustainable energy business, is seeking a highly skilled and commercially minded Legal Counsel - Real Estate/Construction to join its legal team in the London Area. This mid-to-senior level, full-time role reports directly to the General Counsel and is based in the London office for a minimum of three days per week. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the company's expanding commercial property portfolio and critical infrastructure projects, including electric vehicle (EV) charging forecourts, battery storage, and solar facilities.

Key Responsibilities

The appointed Legal Counsel will manage a diverse portfolio of real estate and construction matters. Key duties include:

  • Property Portfolio Support: Providing expert legal advice on all aspects of GRIDSERVE's commercial property portfolio, including forecourts, offices, and EV charging sites.
  • Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating property agreements (leases, licenses, easements, wayleaves, options) and construction-related contracts (principal contractor agreements, consultant appointments, collateral warranties).
  • Strategic Business Growth: Collaborating closely with the Growth and Business Development teams to identify opportunities, manage legal and commercial risks, and negotiate with prospective clients, landlords, and partners.
  • External Counsel Management: Instructing and coordinating with retained external law firms to ensure cost-effective and high-quality delivery of outsourced property and construction legal services.
  • Process Optimization: Developing and refining standard templates, playbooks, and self-service guidelines to streamline internal legal processes.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:

  • Experience: 5 to 8 years of Post-Qualified Experience (PQE) with a strong focus on commercial real estate and exposure to construction law.
  • Practice Background: Proven track record gained within a reputable private practice or an established in-house legal department.
  • Sector Expertise: Prior experience in the infrastructure, renewable energy, retail, or property sectors is highly advantageous.
  • Professional Qualification: Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales is preferred.
  • Core Skills: Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills, a solution-oriented approach, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
