Commercial Legal Counsel

Contextual Overview

Powerfleet is seeking an experienced Commercial Legal Counsel based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to join its legal team. This full-time role focuses on providing practical legal support across the business, with an emphasis on commercial contracts, legal risk management, and regulatory compliance within the AIoT and SaaS software industry.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
• Qualified and in good standing as a lawyer, solicitor, barrister, or equivalent legal professional in Canada or the United Kingdom.
• 4–6 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in commercial and contract law, gained in private practice, in-house, or a combination of both.
• Strong knowledge of commercial and contract law in Canada and/or the United Kingdom.
• Practical experience advising on data privacy legislation, including POPIA, GDPR, PIPEDA, and applicable US federal and state privacy regulations.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements including customer, vendor, supplier, NDA, SLA, licensing, and partnership contracts.
• Manage the full contract lifecycle from drafting to terminations and maintain contract templates and playbooks.
• Provide practical, business-focused legal advice to cross-functional teams such as Sales, Procurement, Finance, Product, and Operations.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and commercial risks associated with contractual arrangements.
• Advise on data privacy and protection matters, review data processing agreements, and support regulatory compliance frameworks.

Stipend, Compensation & Mode

Base Salary: CAD $135,000 – $145,000 per year, with eligibility for additional variable compensation. Final compensation is determined based on experience, skills, and location.

Mode: Full-time, On-site / Hybrid (Toronto, Ontario, Canada).
