About the Opportunity

Wolters Kluwer is inviting applications for the position of Managing Legal Counsel - India. This is a full-time, mid-senior level role based primarily in Gurgaon, Haryana, with Pune being considered as an alternative location. The selected candidate will join the Global Law and Compliance Department as part of the Asia-Pacific Region Legal team, reporting directly to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel, Health Division. The role involves travel within India to engage with stakeholders, clients, partners, and attend court hearings.

Key Responsibilities

The Managing Legal Counsel will act as a key legal advisor to Wolters Kluwer’s business operations in India. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Commercial Contracts: Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including technology, software-related services (on-premise and cloud), service agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Employment & Labor Compliance: Advising people managers and HR teams on employment issues for over 3,500 employees in India, ensuring strict compliance with Indian Labour Codes.
  • Regulatory & Data Privacy: Supporting the implementation of and compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, information technology regulations, pharmaceutical sector requirements, and medical ethics codes.
  • Litigation Management: Managing litigation matters, drafting legal notices, cease-and-desist letters, and advising business teams on optimal legal strategies.
  • External Counsel Management: Overseeing external counsel handling commercial transactions, real estate, and employment disputes.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for the role:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) from a highly regarded, nationally recognized educational institution.
  • Bar Admission: Must be licensed to practice law in India.
  • Experience: A minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible corporate and commercial legal experience. Experience working with both a top-tier law firm and an established in-house corporate legal department is highly preferred.
  • Domain Expertise: Proven experience in negotiating IT-related commercial contracts, managing large-scale workforces, and handling labor/employment laws. Experience with real-estate transactions is desirable.
  • Language: Absolute fluency in written and spoken English.
