Contextual Overview

AfterShip is seeking a Legal Counsel (Product & Technology) for a remote-first role based in Madrid, Spain. In this position, the counsel serves as a strategic partner to the Product, Engineering, and GTM teams, advising on product lifecycle compliance, data privacy, IP, and regulatory frameworks across China, Europe, and North America.

Key Eligibility Criteria

Education: Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree.
Bar Qualification: Qualified to practice law in China or a major common-law jurisdiction.
Experience: 5–8+ years of legal experience, including 3+ years in-house at a technology company.
Subject Expertise: Strong experience in product development legal advising, international data privacy regulations, and technology contracts.
Languages: Fluency and proficiency in both English and Mandarin (speaking and writing).

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

Provide end-to-end legal support through the product lifecycle (ideation, launch, and iteration).
Draft and negotiate terms of service, licensing agreements, and commercial tech contracts.
Translate privacy, data protection, consumer protection, and IP requirements into actionable product guidelines across APAC, EU, and NA.
Serve as a legal bridge between APAC R&D teams and global stakeholders.
Develop internal scalable policies, contract templates, and support emerging technology assessments (e.g., AI/ML).
