BlackLine is hiring a full-time Employment Counsel - EMEA based in London, United Kingdom. Working closely with the Global Legal Team and Associate General Counsel (Global Employment), the counsel will provide employment law advice across European and Middle Eastern jurisdictions (UK, EU, Middle East), with a primary focus on supporting the Go-To-Market (GTM) organization, including Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success.
Key Eligibility Criteria
- Qualifications: Licensed qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent relevant qualification).
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) specializing in employment law within a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of labor/employment laws, practical legal-risk assessment, excellent communication skills, and ability to distill complex legal concepts for business stakeholders.
- Preferred: Experience with European Works Councils (particularly France), fluency in a European language alongside English, or licensure in both the UK and US/EU.
Responsibilities & Scope of Work
- Provide day-to-day legal counsel to HR and business management on recruiting, employee relations, performance management, grievances, and disciplinary actions across EMEA.
- Draft, review, and update employment agreements, offer letters, separation agreements, employee handbooks, restrictive covenants, and IP agreements for enterprise software sales and marketing roles.
- Advise on employment law aspects of variable compensation, commission plans, bonuses, and related disputes.
- Monitor regional labor law developments across EMEA, assess compliance risks, and coordinate with external local counsel on litigation and local law issues.
- Develop and deliver internal employment law training for HR and leadership.
