Senior Legal Consultant

Contextual Overview

Foodmax, a B2B food supply chain business headquartered in Singapore serving customers across Singapore, Malaysia, and the wider region, is inviting applications for the position of Senior Legal Consultant. As the company's first dedicated in-house legal appointment in Singapore, the selected candidate will report directly to the Head of Corporate Affairs. The role involves building the legal function from scratch, owning commercial legal work end-to-end, and working directly with cross-border business teams across Singapore and China.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Bar Qualification: Admitted to the Singapore Bar, or qualified in another common law jurisdiction with substantial Singapore experience.
• Experience: 8 to 12 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), including a minimum of 4 years in an in-house role at a high-growth company. Background in logistics, supply chain, e-commerce, or consumer platforms is preferred.
• Language Proficiency: Full working fluency in both English and Mandarin (capable of drafting/negotiating in English and interfacing directly with Mandarin-speaking teams).
• Key Attributes: Proven capacity to operate independently as the sole in-house legal counsel, demonstrate cross-border/cross-cultural capability, and provide practical, solution-oriented business advice.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts including merchant/supplier agreements, warehousing, logistics, tech services, and settlement arrangements.
• Establish and maintain the legal contract template library, approval workflows, and legal register.
• Provide commercial legal advice and actionable alternatives to business teams.
• Manage external legal counsel across Singapore, Malaysia, and China regarding scope, fees, and deliverables.
• Oversee corporate secretarial/shareholding structures, IP, data protection (PDPA), employment matters, and regulatory correspondence.
• Handle commercial disputes, debt recovery, and enforcement matters.
