Sr Corporate Counsel - Consumer Lending

Happen Bank (formerly LendingClub) is seeking a Sr Corporate Counsel to provide strategic and tactical legal support for its consumer finance operations. The role focuses on unsecured lending, auto loan refinancing, and point-of-sale financing, requiring a candidate who can act as a trusted advisor to business teams in a fast-paced, fintech environment.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Education: J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Licensure: Active license in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
• Experience: 3-5 years of legal experience (law firm, government, or in-house); minimum 1-2 years specifically in consumer finance law.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Proficiency in TILA, ECOA, FCRA, BSA/AML, EFTA, UDAAP, and related federal/state regulations.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Advise on product development, marketing materials, and UX compliance.
• Monitor and analyze federal and state regulatory developments impacting lending and servicing.
• Partner with the Compliance team to manage risk, consumer complaints, and internal/external audits.
• Collaborate on process improvements to ensure consistent application of legal requirements.

Stipend, Compensation & Mode

Base Salary: $137,000 – $220,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. The role also includes eligibility for annual bonuses and equity awards.

Mode: Full-time, Hybrid (In-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in San Francisco, Lehi, or New York).
