Assistant General Counsel - Commercial (Partnerships)

Contextual Overview

Kraken (Payward), one of the world's leading crypto platforms and financial infrastructure providers, is hiring an Assistant General Counsel - Commercial (Partnerships) based in Ireland (operating in a remote-first environment). Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial Legal, the successful candidate will serve as the lead commercial counsel for high-visibility product partnerships and novel financial exchange initiatives.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Qualifications: J.D. or equivalent legal degree with an active license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
• Experience: 8+ years of commercial legal experience, preferably combining top-tier law firm practice with in-house roles.
• Domain Expertise: Track record of managing complex, high-stakes commercial transactions involving SaaS, technology agreements, and strategic partnerships. Experience in fintech, crypto, or regulated financial sectors is desirable.
• Skills: Strong drafting, negotiation, and risk-management capabilities; leadership and team mentoring experience.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Lead commercial counsel on product partnerships, driving legal strategy and drafting complex commercial arrangements.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Sales, Engineering, Finance, Regulatory, and Compliance teams to design go-to-market strategies.
• Develop and refine legal templates, playbooks, CLM tools, and AI process automations.
• Support contract lifecycle management and assist with M&A contract diligence and integration.
