Legal Counsel – Manulife Financial Corporation

Manulife, a leading international financial services provider, is hiring a full‑time Legal Counsel to support its Hong Kong and Macau operations. The role involves providing legal advice on products, distribution, marketing, claims, and regulatory matters, drafting and negotiating agreements, and managing external counsel.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Qualified solicitor in Hong Kong
• Minimum 8 years post‑qualification experience in the insurance or financial services industry of Hong Kong
• Proven knowledge of Hong Kong insurance laws and Macau regulatory framework
• Prior experience with IA, AMCM or other financial regulatory bodies (advantage)
• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Provide legal advice and support on Macau operations, including products, distribution, marketing, claims, and complaints
• Manage claims, complaints, and litigation matters in Macau; develop dispute resolution strategies
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements and other documents related to Hong Kong and Macau operations and distribution channels
• Advise on intra‑group agreements and general corporate, commercial, and governance matters
• Support business projects, new business models, and strategic initiatives across the group
• Advise on new laws and regulations in Hong Kong and Macau; support regulatory submissions to IA, AMCM, and other authorities
• Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory changes in Hong Kong and Macau
• Work closely with internal stakeholders in Hong Kong, Macau, Asia, and North America
• Instruct, monitor, and supervise external counsel
• Draft, review, and update agreement templates for the legal team and business units
• Prepare regular regulatory reports and assist in reporting exercises
• Conduct legal research and perform other duties as assigned
