Senior Legal Counsel, Digital Assets and Payments

Monzo is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their Legal and Board Governance Collective in the UK. This role focuses on providing legal and commercial guidance for the company's payments business, with a specific emphasis on digital assets and emerging financial technologies. The successful candidate will act as a key business partner to product teams, engineers, and risk/compliance professionals.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Professional legal qualification (implied by the senior counsel designation).
• Experience in navigating complex legal and regulatory landscapes within the fintech or banking sector.
• Ability to work as a trusted advisor across cross-functional teams including Product, Risk, and Compliance.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Partner with product managers to advise on the legal impact of digital assets and emerging financial technologies.
• Ensure Monzo’s operations scale safely and remain in compliance with evolving UK and EU legal/regulatory frameworks.
• Act as a primary legal point of contact for product initiatives, identifying risks and providing proactive solutions.
• Collaborate with the Director of Legal for Payments & Business Banking and the broader UK Legal team.
• Manage relationships with external law firms and suppliers to optimize cost and workflow efficiency.

Stipend, Compensation & Mode

Compensation: Circa £110,000 per annum, supplemented by performance-based incentive awards and standard company benefits.
