Employment and Commercial Counsel

Rent The Runway is seeking an Employment and Commercial Counsel to join their legal team in Brooklyn, NY. This role serves as a strategic advisor to the People Team and executive leadership, focusing on employment law matters while also managing commercial contract negotiations and generalist legal inquiries across the organization.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
• Licensure: NY bar membership or eligibility to register as an in-house attorney in NY.
• Experience: Minimum of 4 years of legal practice, including at least 2 years in employment law and 2 years of in-house experience at an operating company.
• Skills: Experience in drafting/negotiating commercial agreements and a practical, risk-based approach to legal counseling.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Lead attorney for employment matters including recruitment, employee relations, labor issues, wage and hour compliance, and internal investigations.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements with partners, including SaaS, technology, and marketing/advertising vendors.
• Develop HR policies, training materials, and scalable legal processes.
• Collaborate with the legal team on diverse matters such as international trade, safety, and environmental compliance.

Stipend, Compensation & Mode

Mode: Office-centric; requires presence at the Brooklyn headquarters Monday through Thursday.
