Senior Corporate Counsel - Environmental Litigation & Regulatory

Contextual Overview

Republic Services is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel to manage environmental litigation and regulatory matters. This role involves providing legal counsel on CERCLA/Superfund claims, toxic torts, and regulatory compliance, while supporting cross-functional teams in a large, multi-state corporate environment.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
• Licensure: Licensed to practice law and in good standing.
• Experience: Minimum of seven years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Preferred: 8 years of relevant experience, including in-house counsel experience in a large, multi-state corporate setting.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Manage a portfolio of environmental matters, including CERCLA, property damage, toxic torts, and insurance coverage.
• Provide strategic legal support for environmental compliance, investigations, and remedial actions.
• Advise on federal, state, and local environmental statutes (RCRA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act).
• Oversee outside counsel, manage legal budgets, and handle litigation reserves.
• Support all phases of litigation, including depositions, hearings, and trials.
