Legal Counsel

Contextual Overview

SAS, a global leader in data and AI software, is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their legal team in a hybrid capacity based in Cary, North Carolina. This role involves providing legal advice and operational support regarding AI governance, cybersecurity, open-source software, and emerging technology matters under the guidance of a Senior Attorney.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Education: Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school or equivalent.
• Licensure: Must be a member in good standing of at least one state bar.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience.
• Specialized Experience: 1-2 years of experience implementing technology/AI/cybersecurity regulatory requirements and 1-2 years of experience drafting/negotiating complex commercial/SaaS agreements.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Advise on AI regulatory compliance, cybersecurity, and emerging technology matters.
• Translate complex legal requirements into practical guidance for R&D, Sales, and Compliance teams.
• Perform legal review of AI and generative AI features throughout the product lifecycle.
• Negotiate contracts involving AI-enabled software, data use, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Develop scalable legal resources, including playbooks, templates, and training materials.
