Role Overview
Semgrep is seeking a Lead Counsel (Commercial) to join its legal team in San Francisco. This role is responsible for driving commercial transactions, managing customer and vendor agreements, and building scalable legal processes within a high-growth, AI-native software environment.
Key Eligibility Criteria
- Qualification: J.D. degree and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California bar preference).
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years of legal experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house roles within the SaaS or technology sector.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with legal issues surrounding AI, data privacy, cybersecurity, and open-source software.
- Operational Skills: Proven ability to implement legal technology and AI-based workflows to improve contracting efficiency.
Responsibilities & Scope of Work
- Lead negotiation of SaaS agreements, MSAs, DPAs, NDAs, and procurement contracts.
- Partner with Product, Security, and Engineering teams on compliance and legal strategy.
- Develop and maintain legal playbooks, templates, and approval processes.
- Advise on legal developments affecting AI and developer tools.
Stipend & Compensation
Salary Range: $264,000 - $330,000 per annum (based on San Francisco Bay Area market data). The package also includes equity and benefits.
