Solarcentury Africa – Legal Counsel (Full‑time)
Solarcentury Africa (SCA) is a renewable‑energy developer and asset owner operating across Sub‑Saharan Africa. The role is based in the London Area, United Kingdom.
Key Eligibility Criteria
- Law degree
- Minimum five years post‑qualification experience in an international law firm or in‑house, in project/project finance, corporate finance or M&A, preferably with an energy/renewable focus
- Proven drafting and negotiating of transactional legal documentation
- Experience in international markets, preferably emerging markets
- Understanding of project financing structures for large‑scale renewable projects
- Strong organisational and project‑management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English
- Confidence in engaging with government authorities, utilities, consultants, contractors and commercial partners
- Willingness to travel to Sub‑Saharan Africa as required

Responsibilities & Scope of Work
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of project development, finance and corporate agreements (land leases, grid agreements, PPAs, EPC/O&M contracts, bonds, debt facilities, SPAs, SHAs, etc.)
- Analyse project permits and consents; advise on rights packages in each jurisdiction
- Manage legal workstreams, liaise with internal departments and external counterparties
- Support contract management of EPC contracts, including claims and disputes
- Provide written and verbal legal advice to senior management and heads of department
- Maintain relationships with stakeholders, utilities, ministries, contractors and funders
- Review relevant regulation, legislation and licensing regimes
- Represent SCA at meetings and negotiations with key stakeholders
- Support day‑to‑day legal requirements (corporate and tax structuring, policy drafting, shareholder loans, tendering, external counsel management)
- Lead the integration of AI tools within the legal team’s workflow
