Associate General Counsel I

Contextual Overview

The AES Corporation is seeking an Associate General Counsel I to join its legal group in Arlington, VA (or The Dalles, OR). The role focuses primarily on tax equity, tax credit transfer, debt project financing, and renewable project development transactions within a leading global power company.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree and J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably at a major law firm or sophisticated in-house legal group.
• Specialized Expertise: At least 6 years of experience in project finance transactions for renewable energy projects with the ability to lead transactions as in-house finance counsel.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

• Attend to all aspects and issues related to renewable project development and financing, focusing on solar, solar plus storage, stand-alone storage, and wind projects.
• Act as lead internal counsel on tax equity, tax credit transfer, debt financings, and corporate financings.
• Structure, draft, review, and effectively negotiate financing transactions and project-related documents (e.g., power purchase agreements, EPC contracts).
• Manage and coordinate closings and effectively engage outside counsel.
• Provide general legal counsel and strategic guidance to senior and executive-level management.

Stipend, Compensation & Mode

Base Salary: $193,000 to $241,400 per year (plus annual bonus and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), and paid time off).
